The overall situation

Hong Kong has long been one of Vietnam’s major trading partners and foreign direct investment (FDI) sources. The governments of both countries consistently prioritize creating the best conditions for mutual development.

To underscore the significance of this strategic partnership, the total import-export turnover between Vietnam and Hong Kong in 2022 reached nearly 10.9 billion USD, a 6% decrease compared to 2021, and in the first three months of 2023, it amounted to 2.5 billion USD, a 28% decrease compared to the same period in 2022.

The state of trade relations

Vietnam aspires to deepen cooperation with Hong Kong in the development of financial centers based in Vietnam. Additionally, innovations in public science and logistics are also of interest. Hong Kong has a preference for various characteristic products such as agricultural produce, food, consumer goods, and textiles.

As a member of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Hong Kong will strive to maintain and expand bilateral activities with Vietnam.

Requirements for importing into HongKong

  • Processed foods should minimize sugar content.
  • Products should not be packaged in large quantities; packaging should be small.
  • Regarding origin: Goods must originate from Vietnam, proven by Certificate of Origin (C/O) form AHK.
  • Regarding quality: Goods must meet Hong Kong’s quality standards, proven by documents such as quality certificates, safety certificates,…
  • Hong Kong is a free port. No customs duties, surcharges, taxes… on imported and exported goods
  • Except for the following taxable goods: alcohol, methyl alcohol, tobacco and hydrocarbon oil
  • Must have full information about the product name, ingredients, instructions for use, storage, nutritional information…
  • Must have certification from the Food Safety Center of the Department of Food and Environmental Hygiene
